About this Bronze Sculpture

"Red human body, bald head, nude body" is the symbol of Chen Wenling's "Red Memory" series of works. The prototypes of these bronze custom sculptures originate from a group of lovely village children in his hometown, Anxi, Fujian. They are his childhood memories and nostalgia. Eternally hidden emotions.

Chen Wenling's series of Red Boy works is a response to the social form of China's rapid development in the past two or three decades: people living in the past face the changing social landscape and the constantly updated ideology. A sense of helplessness and absurdity. Just like the nakedness and novelty that a naked child felt when he first entered the city. Chen Wenling transferred the use of red in traditional Chinese painting to sculpture. He chose the representative color of China to depict the psychological state of the people for nearly thirty years. The use of red in Chinese culture is both orthodox, folklore and often political. The "Red Memory" series is the collective memory of people born in the 1960s and 1970s. The shape is lean. Chen Wenling said it was "hungry" "Hungry" is the collective miserable memory of the youth of that generation, and the color of red as a carrier of culture left an indelible impression in the life of that generation. As a cultural symbol, the red village boy in Chen Wenling's works is an expression of local elements, which was invaluable in the 1980s when Chinese contemporary art absorbed a lot of Western experience.
