About This Sculpture
Chen Wenling's City Bull is a large-scale work made of stainless steel, which, he says, transforms traditional symbols into modern language. Chen Wenling: It is said that urban sculpture is the soul of a city, which may be a bit exaggerated, but it is indeed the embodiment of a city's radiance, and a city without urban sculpture would be a cold and temperatures city. Chen Wenling's City Bull is a large-scale work made of stainless steel, which, he says, transforms traditional symbols into modern language.
When creating City Bull, he used humanistic landscape concepts such as screens and plum blossoms, but he transformed these traditional symbols into a modern language with an unfamiliar feeling; he also transformed modern materials into ancient imagery, such as the large lotus pond created by Zuo Yuan, where the trunks of the lotus flowers are all discarded steel rebar picked up from construction sites, and the withered leaves on top are made of foam from industrial products I picked up at the seashore.
